"The monumental Salt Mine located in Wieliczka near Krakow is the only mining facility, working non-stop since medieval times to nowadays. Its genuine excavations (passages, ramps, exploitation chambers, lakes and shafts) of an altogether length of about 186,41 miles had been arranged on 9 levels in the earths core, reaching the depth of 327 metres (1 072,83 feet), illustrate all the stages of development of mining techniques in respective historic epochs.
The Wieliczka Salt Mine is open to public in the following hours:
* from 7:30 until 19:30 (1st April – 31st of October)
* from 8:00 until 17:00 (2nd November – 31st March)
Excluding: 1st January, 1st day of Easter, 1st November and 24th, 25th and 31st December.
Visiting only under the supervision of a guide!
Tickets for individuals:
* normal: 42 PLN
* reduced: 28 PLN
* family ticket: 112 PLN
* Family ticket is applied to a family of 2+2, that is 2 adults and 2 children in the age between 4-16.
An individual tourist is regarded as a person (or a group of people) buying the entrance ticket and deciding to wait for a guide, which will happen when a group of 35 will be ready, not longer yet than 1 hour from the time the ticket was purchased. A polish speaking (apart from the so called “Tour”, about which you will read further about) guide is then assigned to the group. Tickets are available in the ticket-office for individual tourists.
